Where the facts come from.
Three tiers of trust
Hand-checked
Facts verified by us, plus editorial moods, pace, “good for” contexts and 0–3 content notes (violence, sexual content, scares, emotional weight). The only films that can satisfy a content limit.
Catalog
Feature films from 1980–2026 chosen by genre and era from Wikidata (CC0): title, year, runtime, director, original language, genres. One-line descriptions from the English Wikipedia lead (CC BY-SA 4.0). Moods and pace are derived from genre and labelled as such. Content is not assessed.
Ratings & images
When an API key is configured, Flick pulls real IMDb ratings, certificates (PG, R…), keywords, posters and banners from TV-API (the IMDb-API service); TMDB can supply images too. Without them, Flick draws a typographic poster with the illustration that means the film’s genre. IMDb data via TV-API; this product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
“Most notable” means how many Wikipedia language editions have an article — a verifiable signal, not a rating. Left out on purpose: star ratings, box-office figures, “% match” scores and streaming availability. We don’t have a verified source for them yet.
